fly, fly all you burdens, go fly away

It had been a long day.
a long day.
I had a headache.
Lots of children today.
It was 8:15.
Dirk said I should take a bath.
I easily agreed to the idea.
I drew the water distractedly.
It was way too hot.
I sunk in it gingerly, feeling sorry for myself.
I am trying to wind down and now I can hardly sit in this hot water!
I start mentally going over my grocery list for tomorrow.
The doorbell rings.
Dirk answers.
Silence.
Dirk yells for all boys to get out of bed and come downstairs.
Pounding feet.
Babes awake and run down too.
Silence.
Dirk yells for me to get a robe on and come downstairs NOW.
I do.
The kitchen is full of grocery bags
with groceries in them.
Dirk said they were laying on the lawn.
A few hundred dollars in food.
meat.
crackers.
soup.
eggs.
fruit.
popsicles.
Once again, He brought us to our knees.
As Dirk led a prayer of thanksgiving,
everyone in a circle holding hands,
as he has so many times before,
I was once again humbled by how He chooses to provide and bless us.
Crying, I headed back for the bath
which was now the perfect temperature.

the boyz gone home

Alright, already! You people (read: Trish) must think I have all the bloggity time in the world.

Yes, the boys arrived home in high style. One had a new spiked hairdo, one had bleached hair. They both came sauntering in w/ brand new flashy (read: expensive) tennis shoes, sunglasses, and presents for everyone. It took a few days to knock them back down a peg or two. And no, they did not appear to have missed me any extraordinary amount.

Jay and Dave came home just in time to send Dirk off to his Teacher's conf. in NC. He was gone four days. Uneventful while he was gone, thank you very much....except for the flooding.

Dirk came home just in time to whisk me away for a little anniversary (I know its a little early, but we take what we can get) trip to the Hill Country. We hadnt been away for a night in 5 yrs. We figured we were due and stayed away 2 whole nights. A big THANK YOU to DOK and SHELLEY for keeping the children. There is no present big enough for the two of them.

We came home just in time (sensing a pattern of incredible business?) to send off the Warren clan to Red River. Molly flew in for the occasion. We had a sleepover and mud fight w/ her before they all left. It will be quiet around here for the next 10 days while they are away...yes, I know: there is no quiet here!
